Reflections During Self Isolation

Being in self isolation during this pandemic has consisted of reflecting on what is and what could be for the future. I’m more than ready to be in the company of my favorite people again, but in the meantime, here are some revelations I’ve had over the last few months….

  1. Choose faith over feelings. In the last few months I’ve often felt like I’m in a battle between joy and hopelessness. While emotions can be up and down, I’m reminded that God always remains the same. He is constant relevant, and faithful no matter what this world looks like. I challenge you like I am challenging myself to rest in God’s word now more than ever. No matter what we feel, the fact remains that God is still good.

  2. Make the most of every single day. Life is so precious and every single day we are fortunate to open our eyes is such a blessing. The funny thing is that we often make plans for tomorrow, for next year, or even five years down the line, but what about today? What about making the most of every opportunity we are given in the present to do, to do dream, to evolve, etc. I’m reminded that while its okay to make plans for the future, there is no time like the present to show up for ourselves, because, well, tomorrow just isn’t promised.

  3. Practice intentional gratitude. Life gets hard and life is hard for so many people right now for so many different reasons. With that being said, there is always the potential for us to be distracted but what is going on around us or maybe even in us that can cause us to lose sight of what God has done and can do. Let’s not forget to be grateful, even for the little things we take for granted at times.

  4. Feed faith, not fear. In times like these, we have to position ourselves to let God’s word speak louder than our anxiety, our fears, our feelings, and our reality. I’m all for staying informed but we cannot consume CNN and social media more than we consume God. Feel me? His word is the only source of hope we can rely on. He has never failed us before and His word said He never will. I believe that with all my heart.

  5. Prayer still works. I wouldn’t dare say I know what the solution is to the state of this country and even this world. What I do know is that real change cannot happen without God. So while we donate and repost and have uncomfortable conversations, let’s not forget to remain prayerful. Let’s continue to pray for those who are tending to the sick, who are grieving, and who are sick themselves. I’m praying for those who are mentally and emotionally exhausted. I’m praying for those who are on the brink of real change in their hearts. May we start and end each day believing that God is bigger than what we see on the evening news. May we believe in God in the most inconvenient times. May there be more wisdom, compassion, and truth moments now more than ever.
