Home Sweet Home
I just didn't have a good feeling about things. With each passing week I would visit what would be my future home and I'd leave disappointed and pissed off (just being honest here...). And then August 25, 2018 came, aka the day Hurricane Harvey hit. I can remember while sitting in a shelter way across town for four days not thinking much about my house. My concern was with my family and my parents' house. The aftermath of the storm however would only bring more challenges for my future home.
Once the dust settled and the water subsided from Hurricane Harvey, I made my way over to my future home to check on progress. There had been some progress but certainly not enough to ensure a December closing. Again, something just didn't feel right. I'd invested money and my heart into this potential home but I had to make a decision on whether or not to walk away and start the process again, and that's exactly what I did. Let me pause here and tell you that sometimes our plans are just that, our plans. I don't always get it right but I try my best to see the lessons in every situation and in this instance, I couldn't figure out what the lesson was. I'd just lost the earnest money I paid on a house that someone would claim as their own and I wasn't really in the mood for learning a lesson. But, what I knew with all certainty was that things would fall in place somehow. I had a peace about it and that was enough for me to know that somehow God would work things out for.
At the end of December, instead of moving into my new home, I was moving in with my parents. I put my things in storage and really started praying about what my next move was. To make a long story short, I found a floor plan with another builder that met all my needs and wants, some of which I had to give up on with the house I initially had my heart set on. I was still in my neighborhood of choice and I had much more confidence in this builder. Construction started on my home February 2018 and I closed on June 26, 2018. Thank you Jesus! It's been a journey, but here I am a second time home owner and I couldn't be more grateful to God for allowing this to happen.
Today's sermon at church was about how God finishes what he started. I love when Pastor John Gray said, "God declares the end before the beginning. He doesn't start a thing that wasn't finished already. What you're going through was planned to prune you." Let me tell you, the tests will never stop coming. Situations that test us to our core will never stop. But there is something about knowing that through it all we already have victory. When things don't go as planned we've got to get to a place where we don't sweat it and start thanking God for working it out. I'm reminded that God's time is best. He has our back even when we can't see it. It's time to fight for our peace and for everything God has for us!
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. - Jeremiah 29: 11
