Chasing the Sun
Every year I usually wake up in a new city for my birthday but this year I opted to spend it with my family at home. That didn’t stop the wheels in my head from turning because I really wanted to get a quick break from reality with my numero uno travel buddy Karla. I wanted us to go somewhere that neither of us had been in the U.S. and so we decided on Phoenix, Arizona.
First off, the weather was amazing. The sun and cool breeze hit us as soon as we stepped outside the airport. We stayed at the Kimpton Hotel Palomar in the heart of downtown. From the rooftop pool to the overall service, I don’t have one complaint. I’m not always a fan of hotel food but they did not disappoint. We grabbed breakfast one morning from Blue Hound Kitchen and Cocktails and had lunch twice at the Lustre Rooftop Bar.
If you’re ever in Phoenix and looking for a place full of charm and good eats for brunch, consider checking out The Henry. Both Karla and I had the California Scramble and it was delish. The food was so good at Yard House that we ate there twice and left with a smile on our faces both times. The lobster garlic noodles are my absolute favorite there! We also had the opportunity to dine out at Steak 44. If you live in Houston, it’s the equivalent to our Steak 48. It’s one of my favorite restaurants so I was excited to see what the experience was like in another state. Well, the experience was no different and they definitely get five out of five stars from me.
A trip wouldn’t be complete without a little shopping. I stuck with my go to’s but the Scottsdale Fashion Fashion Square has every story you can possibly think of.
I headed home with a full heart (and a full belly). I’m grateful for the people who just get me. I’m thankful for those that rock with me during the high’s and the low’s. I’m blessed to have great women in my corner. We aren’t perfect but we consciously choose to be there for one another and that’s all I can ask for. Cheers to chasing the sun, random fun, the friends that tag along.
