It's Time to Unplug
It’s time to unplug my friends.
Yes, you read that right….
I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with social media. If you have a blog, brand, or business, then you understand the value that the internet plays when it comes to getting your message out to as many people as possible. Frankly, social media is a necessity when you are building a brand. Personally, I enjoy connecting with other women and using my platforms to encourage others but for the last few months, I feel lost in it. I’ve literally made real life friends from Instagram so for me it’s more than trading compliments or tracking my follower count. Along with other things, social media has become a distraction and it has contributed to this state of confusion I’ve been experiencing.
I have so many ideas in my head but I’m not sure anymore what exactly I’m supposed to be doing. That is a sign that it’s time for me to be still. It’s time to create more opportunities to hear from God and that’s what I truly want to focus on right now. Simply put, I need to live in my own little bubble for just a little bit to take care of myself mentally, spiritually, and even creatively. It’s easy to step away when life gets crazy but honestly, I’ve had a peace in my life this year like never before. Taking a step back so that I can get clarity is very much intentional and necessary.
We aren’t all built the same. What or who may distract us or bring confusion to the table will not be the same. I think at the end of the day, there is value in disconnecting from the world from time to time in an effort to reconnect to who we are and what really matters. If that means a break from social media, your television, that guy/girl, or whatever, then so be it. That’s where I am right now and I’m excited for what God is going to reveal to me while I’m on this hiatus.
My hope is that between now and mid September I will get the clarity I need to do the things I know I’ve been called to do.
Here goes nothing!
