34 Things I'd Tell My Younger Self
I'm always grateful for birthdays because it's truly a blessing to say that I survived another year of life and all it threw at me. I've got a lot of work to do on myself before I even get close to the woman I want to be but I am without a doubt grateful for the growth I've seen in myself in the last year.
My goals for the next year are to publish another book, get in the best shape of my life, put the framework together for a business I've been wanting to start, really step my discipline up when it comes to my relationship with God, and to simply remember to LIVE and enjoy life. In reflecting over this past year I thought it would be fun (and interesting) to write down 34 things (YES, a whole 34!) I'd tell my younger single (prior to age 30 that is). Some are random, some are serious, and some are just fun, but all are significant to me.
Heartbreak doesn’t last always. Take responsibility for the role you played and start making better decisions for yourself and your heart. You will wake up one morning and feel complete peace.
Invest in yourself. If you can’t do that for yourself then don’t expect anyone else to do it on your behalf. You have to believe in yourself.
Save more and spend less. I don’t care if you can only save 5 bucks a pay check, just start somewhere. It will add up.
Your talents don't belong to you, they belong to God. Get to work!
A relationship with God takes effort and discipline. Like any other relationship if you don't invest quality time, you won't see growth.
Friends come and go. Hold on to the ones that accept you and challenge you to be better at the same time.
Self care is life changing. You have to make yourself a priority.
Remember that you work for God before you work for anyone else. Do your job and do it well.
Live your life with expectancy.
Falling in love should never distract you from what you've been called to do or from your relationship with God.
Singleness is not a disease that needs to be cured. Focus on living your best life and positioning yourself for everything God has for you, including a God centered relationship.
Never let anyone make you believe that kindness is a weakness.
Never assume, just ask.
Don’t confuse “good advice” for Godly wisdom. They are not one in the same.
Travel the world, whether near or far.
No significant change can be made in this life without relying on the strength of God. You will fail every time if you try to rely on yourself.
Time waits on no one. Whatever speaks to your soul, do it!
Talking to yourself doesn't make you crazy, as long as you know you're doing it.
Don't allow your day job to consume you at the expense of walking in your purpose.
Loyalty to another person does not mean dismissing your own feelings and personal needs.
Take care of your body. Get moving and be mindful of what you put in your body.
Joy and happiness are not the same thing.
People aren't mind readers. Speak up if you want to be heard.
Don't give away parts of yourself (physically, mentally, emotionally, etc.) that you know you can't afford to give.
Don't miss opportunities to be a light in this world.
When people repeatedly show you who they are, believe them. In other words don't expect different behavior from someone who has consistently shown you that they will disappoint you every time.
Trust the process. God will put the right people in your life at the right time.
Drink more water. Your skin will thank you later.
Focus on how good God has been when it feels like everything is falling apart. His track record speaks for itself.
Instead of venting to others, pray to God.
Forgive quickly. It's for you and not the other person.
Be mindful of the words you speak over your life because each word has power.
Don't sweat the small stuff.
Start each day with a grateful spirit. It could change the entire way you live your life for the rest of your life.
Happy Birthday to me!

34 Things I'd Tell My Younger Self
I'm 34 years old on today! I'm always grateful for birthdays because it's truly a blessing to say that I survived another year of life and all it threw at me.
